The inaugural Theatre in the Ruin event that took place last fall inside the historic Menominee Opera House was deemed a success. As you may know, it was the first time that a scheduled performance had taken place in the building in over 70 years. However, future events have been temporarily placed on hold. At least for the summer of 2015.
We are currently in the process of obtaining an occupancy permit from the City of Menominee, which is needed not only for Theatre in the Ruin but for any public events to take place in the building going forward. The city has set forth specific requirements that we need to meet in order for the permit to be granted. Plans are already under way to make the necessary changes. It is not known yet, though, just how long the changes will take to complete or how long it will take for the occupancy permit to then be approved.
Theatre in the Ruin has been a great way to get the public into the building and also spur additional interest in its history and the restoration work being done. Live performances will return once again to the Menominee Opera House. This is nothing more than a minor setback. Keep an eye on our website and/or Facebook page for details as things progress.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
