Things were smoking at the opera house fund-raising picnic at Menominee Marina. The weather was ideal! The chickens were grilling, the music was hot and the people were patient while waiting in line for their half-chicken meal.
The group made about $2,000.00 from ticket sales, a bake sale, raffles and Flea Market
and donations.
Chief chicken cooker Harry Ellery and his chicken grillin buddy Dan Mathein were flipping hundreds of
chicken halves during the day using Harry's newly designed chicken flipping apparatis. John Mentch & Tom Tarmann manned the other grills for Brats and Hot Dogs.
This year many flea marketers showed up to sell their wares and enjoy the day. Reports are that they all did well and would do it again.
The entertainment was great and was provided by The Sunroom String Band & Friends, Garrett Mason & Max Hellermann, and The Dave Steffen Trio.
The tours of the Opera House were well attended and informative as the folks who visited were able to visualize the possibilities and enormous task ahead of us to reconstruct this venerable old building.
The picnic went without a hitch thanks to a number of committee members and other voluteers who worked hard during the event as well as the donations of area businesses and those who made treats for the bake sale and all of those who attended or helped in any way are greatly appreciated.
