Treasurer's Report
"Theatre In The Ruin" - Closer than you think!
Progress continues one step at a time. From the treasures point of view, all work done to date is paid in full. We have no debt, $109,000 in the bank and very, very low overhead costs (less than $1,000 per year).
The façade wall foundation work is now complete. We have repointed all of the masonry joints ground level to 4' and repointed all joints to the right and left of the columns to the 32' level. The center section above the fan window will be repointed after the infill wall reconstruction is completed.
The design and permitting process for the new entry staircase is complete with the footing system installed. We are in the midst of design and permitting of the infill wall, which will be from the 32' level to the roof edge.
We have applied for a grant from SHIPO to help us with installing historically correct masonry and ornamental detail to the infill wall, but our "bread and butter" has been the steady flow of small donations. Just ten of those small $10 donations equal $100, which will buy three sheets of plywood for the upper lobby floor.
The immediate focus does not have to be on a finished theatre. All of the small steps we have taken to date have preserved the building for another generation. Past steps taken by the Venema family in funding major construction projects and John Henes's contributions in preventing the building's destruction have all kept the Menominee Opera House from only being a memory to the Menominee area.
Plans are being made for "Theatre In The Ruin" to start this summer and will keep keep the process going. We will be the home for small performances and display art in this area. We hope to inspire your "inner artist".
